Adjacent to an existing downtown hotel, and across a small alley, the hospitality extension united two adjacent buildings into one premium hotel wing. Corrective revisions to the 1890’s facade and restrained interior renovations kept much of the buildings’ original character, including a restored turret. Delivering natural light to interior suites and the lower-level ballroom, a restored 24′ x 48′ lightwell defines the edge between the 1890’s bank and the 1912 YMCA structures, revealing the historic brick parti-wall. The most significant change was the addition of a fourth story penthouse level, strategically set back from the roof edge so the added height is virtually imperceptible from the street.

Additional Information

“This is a substantial undertaking in scale and complexity. Faithfully restored, these significant buildings will serve the community as landmarks for many more years. The structures knit together functionally and aesthetically around a magical central atrium. The penthouse level sets respectfully back from the historic facade and creates a modern rooftop place to enjoy the vista.”– Jury Comment
