A proposed mixed-use development in the Shelby Park neighborhood of Louisville, KY, spanning three existing properties. The first features a 12-story tower with ground-floor commercial space and multi-family residential units above. The second property is envisioned as a craft bourbon distillery with an integrated event space, while the third houses a craft brewery and taproom. The overall site is being designed as a welcoming public gathering space, with improved connectivity to Beargrass Creek and an adjacent walking path

Additional Information

“This proposal to recover and reuse abandoned industrial buildings is commendable, reflecting respect for
Louisville’s history and a sustainable vision for the future. As the design evolves, we recommend careful attention to apartment layouts that highlight the robust columns and ensure exterior windows to enhance livability. Also, developing a master plan for future site growth would preserve the project’s lasting value. Transforming a deep-footprint structure into multifamily residential is no easy feat, and we applaud the architect’s ambition, encouraging thoughtful integration or celebration of existing columns within the units. While the renovation strategies for the existing buildings are promising, the architectural expression of the proposed high-rise may benefit from further refinement. This complex effort requires strong collaboration among design, business, and government communities, and we offer our best wishes for its successful realization
